Cards, Birthdays, Books, and Basketball
That pretty much sums up my weekend.
Cards-
My mom in all her wonderfullness (it is my blog, I can make up words if I want to) kept the girls on Friday and let them spend the night. We had a great time with Jennifer and Billy at Joe’s. I love that Joe’s has a non-smoking side now. You still leave smelling like smoke, but you don’t notice it when you are actually inside.
After we left Joe’s, we played Texas Hold Em’ at our house. I won’t go into specifics, but I do believe that the girls each had more chips than the boys at the end. Copper and Daisy were ecstatic to have fellow dog lovers in the house to shower them with attention.
UNO was the card game of choice tonight. Hailey beat me soundly two times in a row. She never even had to draw a card from the pile. I won my hand against Ed but I really wish we had timed the game. I truly think it was the longest game of UNO I have ever played with just two people. We had to shuffle the discard pile several times.
Birthdays-
We celebrated Hunter’s birthday on Saturday with our family. Jimmy and Julie provided an excellent dinner as always so we left very satisfied. They recently went to PA on Spring Break and brought me back a Hershey’s glass filled with chocolate. My sister knows what makes the world go ’round! Although the good people at Hershey’s would probably cringe to know that I will be drinking my Nestle Nesquik out of that glass!
Hailey wanted so desperately to keep up with the big kids. At one point she told them to slow down and exclaimed that she was “just a little girl!”
We celebrated my father-in-law’s birthday today. Now my dad AND my father-in-law are twice my age! Brunch was fabulous and Bob even got candles in his ice cream!
Books-
I finished Icy Sparks by Gwyn Hyman Rubio. I don’t feel like writing a full review so I will just say that it was “ok”. It wasn’t a page-turner for me and I really prefer books I can’t put down.
I have started re-reading To Kill a Mockingbird. It is our book group’s book for the month. I feel like I am back in school.
Basketball-
We all know how thrilled I was to have UNC win yesterday. I was pulling hard for Davidson today and hate it for them that they couldn’t pull it out in the end. I hope going up against the school he coached at for 15 years won’t break Roy’s focus. Hopefully it will make our guys dig a little deeper to get the win. I do think it is pretty cool that this is the first time ever that all four #1 teams are in the final four.
I hope everyone has a great week!
Good Ol’ Roy
My husband’s blog is all about UNC but it seems that I just can’t keep Good Ol’ Roy from making appearances in my blog as well. We were in the car tonight while the UNC coaches’ show was being broadcast. I did not hear the question, but it must have had something to do with the players listening to the radio show. Roy responded that the kids all had ipods and listened to music and they had no reason to listen to Roy and Woody talk on the radio each week. He said they had plenty of other things to be spending their time on and that when he was in college, he certainly wouldn’t have been listening to a coaches’ show on the radio. So what would Good Ol’ Roy be doing with his time instead? He would be “sparking Wanda” (his wife). Roy, I love ya, but that was just TMI (although it did give me a very good laugh)!
Coach K pushes Roy to say *gasp* “damn”

CHAPEL HILL — North Carolina coach Roy Williams apparently doesn’t think too highly of Duke coach Mike Krzyzewski’s views on injury reports.
In a small tiff that has added the latest spice to college basketball’s most intense rivalry, Williams took exception to a comment made by Krzyzewski on Sunday that the Blue Devils don’t discuss injuries “unlike other schools.”
While Krzyzewski never mentioned the thirdranked Tar Heels specifically, Williams felt the statement was a subtle jab at his team, which has had a much-publicized run of injuries and ailments in the past two weeks.
It was enough to have Williams, in a comment on his weekly radio show Monday, telling an unspecified person to “coach their own damn team, I’ll coach my team.”
On Tuesday, Williams found himself discussing the comments again instead of focusing on the Tar Heels’ game at North Carolina State on Wednesday.
“It’s not like I’m getting a dadgum plane and flying it around to say, ’Roy fell against a wall and banged his nose’ or anything,” Williams said in a news conference. “We have to do those things (talk about injuries) and everybody’s hurt. But there’s different stages of being hurt.
“If you’re hurt and missing games, that’s not exactly like having a hangnail.
And so we do have some people that are getting hurt and missing games. I don’t think that somebody should say we’re putting it in front of the public.”
When a reporter attempted to ask a followup question, Williams said he didn’t want to discuss the comments further and have “battles through the media.” But when the news conference ended, Williams came back to the topic once more.
“I said before we played Duke it’s impossible to have any more respect than I do for Mike,” Williams said, “but I felt like that comment was aimed towards us.”
Duke team spokesman Jon Jackson declined to comment Tuesday, one day before the fifth-ranked Blue Devils travel to Miami.
Krzyzewski’s comment came in a radio interview after Duke’s loss at Wake Forest. While noting that freshman Nolan Smith had been playing through a knee injury for a few weeks, Krzyzewski added, “unlike other schools we don’t release our injuries,” according to the Web site for radio station WRBZ-AM in Raleigh.
We love Roy
Our family adores Roy Williams. We’ve never actually had the extreme privilege of meeting the famed basketball coach, but we would jump at the opportunity. I have read every book that has been written about Roy’s time at UNC and have gained new respect for him with each book. He is just an all around great guy.
Hailey and Leah are schooled in all things UNC. Hailey has been able to sing “Hark the Sound” for years. We have UNC cheerleader outfits in every possible size. They are members of the Carolina Kids Club. They have story books about the Carolina campus. Hailey will tell you that State is bad, but Dook is worse. We have taught them to recognize Roy and to know that he is the men’s basketball coach. Hailey can point out Roy Williams in a crowd. Ever since she was two, she has gotten excited whenever she sees him on TV or on a magazine. Ed is a big believer in mojo and Woody’s directive to “go where you go and do what you do.” So consider this my positive mojo…we’re pulling for you, Roy and we hope you send Dook packing!
