Happy Anniversary to ME!

It has been three years since I joined Thirty-One gifts as a consultant.  I had NO IDEA how my life would change as a result of that one decision.

I saw a Thirty-One booth at our county fair in the fall of 2008.  I remember telling my husband that I would never “do” direct sales but if I did, those were the products I wanted to sell.  It stayed on my mind for months and when I saw that a friend was selling, I asked her for a catalog and HAD TO HAVE the skirt purse (this was the OLD one with the ties which I never use anymore because I like the newer style better but I refuse to get rid of it!).  I booked a party with her for April but couldn’t wait to get my purse so I ordered it for my birthday in March (easiest birthday present my husband ever got me!).  At my party, I talked more than the hostess did and she said I should be a consultant.  There was a special that month that allowed you to join for $25 and they took the balance out of your first commission check…what did I have to lose?

In the beginning my WHY was to earn enough money to be able to buy Thirty-One and other “fun” non-essential things without worrying about our budget or feeling guilty for spending money.  When I realized that I could actually make pretty good money with Thirty-One, my WHY was expanded.  I had always said that I wanted to be home with my girls in the afternoon by the time Hailey started middle school.  It was a dream because I never thought it would actually be possible.  I was able to go part-time at my job in the middle of Hailey’s third grade year (and I owe a lot to my boss for allowing me to do that!).  Now my WHY is to continue to be able to spend more time with my family and continue on our path to being debt-free (happy to say we have NO credit cards!).  My WHY is also to share this opportunity with other women to empower them to have control over their lives and their finances and to be able to achieve their dreams.  I especially love helping those that are trying to find a way to stay at home with their babies.  I remember sitting at my computer desk during my maternity leave searching online for a work-at-home opportunity that wasn’t a scam or a pyramid scheme.  That was not in God’s plan for me at the time but His plan is always greater than our plan!  As I look at my downline numbers now, I know without a doubt that I am exactly where He wants me to be and I thank Him for his many blessings!

Thirty-One is not MY business, it is my FAMILY’S business.  My husband is a HOTtie (Husband of Thirty-One) and supports me 100% even when that means helping me put labels on catalogs in the middle of the night!  My children of course carry Thirty-One wherever they go and my oldest especially loves to tell everyone about Thirty-One and will tell them what they need to buy!  My girls help sort orders when they come in, they help stamp order forms, label catalogs, etc.  It doesn’t hurt that they know that our upcoming trip to Disney is being paid for by Thirty-One Dream Rewards!

I can’t wait to see what the next 3 years have in store for me!

Thirty-One Outlet

Lately, the number one search phrase that brings people to this blog is “Thirty-One outlet”.  The best way to make sure you don’t miss out on a future outlet is to contact your personal Thirty-One consultant and ask to be put on their newsletter list.  If you do not have a consultant, please contact me at emilypage31@ gmail.com (remove space after @) and I will be happy to add you to my newsletter distribution list!

When there is an outlet sale, it is up to the company if the sale will be open to customers or if it will be for consultants only.  If the sale is open to customers and posted on the company’s facebook page, I will post this information for my customers on my facebook group, Emily Page’s VIP Customers and Hostesses.

Things I learned from my sister, Julie

Because of our age difference (I won’t say how many years so that I don’t get in trouble), I didn’t always have my oldest sister, Julie, around.  When she was around, I was either pestering her (I would hide behind the furniture in the living room when she had dates over and annoy her) or she was mean to me (sorry, Julie…you were…you played hide and go seek with Jo Ellen and I and you did not seek…that is just plain mean).

When Ed passed the bar exam and was looking for a job, he decided to call the DA for the 11th district just to see if they had any openings because we loved Sanford, knew Julie and her family loved it, wanted to live in a small town, and wanted to be able to see Julie, Jimmy, and our nephew, Jay, often.  We were thrilled to learn that there was in fact an opening in the Lee County DAs office and Ed got the job.  I feel very fortunate to have lived in the same town as Julie for the past seven years.   I have been able to watch her parenting style with her two boys and much of how Ed and I parent is based on what we learned from Julie and Jimmy.  Here are some of my favorite things I have learned from Julie:

  1. Laugh – no matter what is broken, ruined, stained, or lost…find a way to laugh about it because in the grand scheme of life, it really doesn’t matter.
  2. You are never going to have enough money to have children…money isn’t important, family is.
  3. Don’t scrimp and buy cheap cat food or you will pay for it later.
  4. Pay attention when filling out your address on work-related orders or you might just come home to find huge boxes of prom stuff on your front porch.
  5. If your kids want to just eat Cheerios and milk for every meal…let them.  They won’t do it forever.
  6. If your kids want to sleep in your bed now and then…let them.  They are only little once.
  7. Don’t stress about potty training.  They’ll get it on their own time.
  8. Every child is different and you have to relate to them differently because of their differences.
  9. If someone offers to buy something for you…let them.
  10. Help your children discover their passion and listen when they tell you they aren’t interested in an activity.
  11. Finding a good deal on a great purse is reason to celebrate.
  12. You should buy yourself a birthday present.
  13. Let your children make their own mistakes…they’ll learn.
  14. The adventures you have with your children are more important than the “stuff” you give them.
  15. Kids heal…don’t stress.
  16. Petri dishes are a cool way to keep your matching jewelry together.
  17. Instant mashed potatoes can taste better than the real thing – and they are a heck of a lot easier.
  18. You can never have too many earrings.
  19. When you are pregnant, no one, and I mean, no one, will take care of you like Wesley Tyler, CNM.
  20. If you aren’t the best cook…marry someone who is.
